A letter from our President!
Dear Friends,
I am writing to bring your attention to the remarkable efforts of Bent Sprockets, a non-profit trail organization based here in Newcastle. In 2023, we undertook a significant project at the Flying V Trail system, contributing to the community’s outdoor recreation and accessibility.
Bent Sprockets has tirelessly worked to enhance the trail system, expanding it to include over 17 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, with a special focus on inclusivity by incorporating over 7 miles of adaptive trails. These efforts align with our commitment to making outdoor activities accessible and inviting to all individuals, regardless of ability.
In addition to trail expansion, Bent Sprockets has implemented several improvements to the Flying V Trail system in 2023:
- New Trail Signs: Trail intersections now feature updated signage, making navigation easy for all trail users.
- Station Maps: Trail stations have been equipped with updated maps, ensuring visitors have accurate and current information during their outdoor adventures.
- Updated Parking Lot with Facilities: A new parking lot has been established, complete with restroom facilities (in the warm months) to enhance the overall visitor experience.
- Trailhead Kiosk: A new trailhead kiosk has been installed, featuring a large and detailed trail map alongside historical information. This addition serves to educate and engage trail users about the natural and historical significance of the area.
Bent Sprockets is more than just the Flying V Trail System, other projects we need your help with are:
The Old Quarry Trails, over five miles of trails and more coming.
Maintenance on the Serenity Trail.
Planning and working with the City of Newcastle on the new bike and skate park.
